The majority of business premises have been classified by Openreach as requiring additional charges to have a new SOGEA or FTTP service installed. This only is where there is no existing plant and so running cables, ducts, etc would be required which incurs extra costs compared to residential premises.
Here are the charges and some examples of the type of premises that fall on to the classifications.
No extra charges.
Examples: Residential, Nursing Home, Communal Residence
Impact: No impact. It would be anticipated that this would have a 'standard' or 'normal' installation procedure. The installation could be carried out by Openreach or one of their contractors and should not need any special surveys.
£35.00 +VAT
Examples: Hotels, Meeting Halls, Campsites, Restaurants, Pharmacies, Retail outlets, some offices, workshops and many more...
Impact: The actual installation should be carried out by an Openreach engineer instead of a contractor such as Kelly Communication.
£180.00 +VAT
Examples: Agricultural, Military, Prisons, Educational sites, Factories, Disused Mines, Place Of Worship, Banks, Petrol Stations, Transport infrastructure and many more...
Impact: This classification usually requires a site survey from Openreach, and therefore may have increased lead times. This will happen before an Openreach attends for the actual installation.
These classification are set by BT Openreach and we're unable to change them. The examples listed are to give a rough guide as to the types of property that could be in each category, in practice the classification and examples may differ.
In these cases our order process will let you know if there will be additional charges and what they will be. The fees are the same fees that Openreach charge us, we pass them on at cost.
